BOSTN (Self-Titled EP)
Dome of Doom
Release: February 25, 2022

BOSTN joins the Dome of Doom family of artists this February with the release of their self-titled EP. It's some of the heavier and more brutalist sound work released on the label to date. Dark, visceral, unhinged, honest. These songs, while being almost completely electronic in their composition style, aren’t necessarily for fans of electronic music. BOSTN’s musical background is more rooted in hardcore, death metal, nu metal, and those influences can be felt very directly in the music. BOSTN hopes to be able to bridge the gap between music lovers who listen primarily to bands and fans of electronic music. The EP is hard hitting and relentless, setting a gritty apocalyptic landscape.

BOSTN on why he chose to self-title the project, “I wanted the EP to be self-titled because it's a rebirth of the project. Over the last almost four years my other previously released music with this project has been more of an experiment and journey of discovery. When I started making bass music I was trying to emulate and fit into a scene that was already very established. Breaking away from that and stepping into my own authentic space has changed everything. This EP is a big moment for me because these songs encompass what I was searching for — my own musical identity, a sound that is unique to me and pulls from my lifetime of many different musical influences. At this time I don’t care how the music is received by others. I am solely in it to express myself and I think ultimately that authenticity is what will resonate with others. BOSTN actually started in 2018 as a ‘phonk’ project. That year I released almost 30 phonk songs, all of which have been taken down from DSPs. In March 2019 I moved away from that sound and into bass music, because I wanted to play shows and I didn’t see a live music market for instrumental hip-hop.”

The EP is a visceral story of greed and lust, focused on humanity's complete disregard for the health of the planet and all of its living inhabitants. The obsession with self, material, and power grows more and more each year and it has damaged our humanity beyond repair. "Impiety" starts off with the warped sounds of a church choir, quickly spinning off into a completely unhinged panic. BOSTN posits that as a species, we ultimately destroy everything, holding nothing as sacred, and the first song sets out to codify this feeling through sound. The second track, "Violence," points to our obsession with War and tools of destruction behind this devastating act. The last track, "The End of Everything," is set in the not too distant future, when mankind has become extinct due to its many greed and power driven plights: war, environmental collapse, disease, infertility, famine. One way or another, humankind is no more.
